You will have to see what kind of things you actually want to achieve, and you can achieve that by planning for a long term goal. For example, a long term goal could be, owning a lake house near a beautiful lake in your country or in another country. What you have to do to achieve that would indeed be something that is stretched over the years. A professional long term goal could be something like becoming a CEO or a partner at a large firm. Everything you do relating to that accomplishment will indeed contribute to the achievement of that long term goal.
